A little about me!

Hi! My name is Megan Lass and I am a junior at Illinois State University. I am a Fashion Merchandising major with a minor in sociology. It may seem like those two topics have nothing to do with each other, but you would be surprised. It really helps knowing what goes on inside the brain and how people interact in every day life so you can better design or sell garments that will not be to disruptive for them in their day-to-day life.

What really got me into fashion and wanting to major in it was growing up I would always watch Project Runway with my mom and I genuinely enjoyed seeing how someone could express themselves through their clothes and designs. While I am not a design major, I still think that it is so cool that you can really change the way you are perceived by other people just by what you wear and not only that, but it can make yourself feel better too and really boost your confidence.

My goal for this class in particular is to better learn how to market towards clients and really learn how I could be the best merchandiser I could be. So this blog is where I am going to learn and grow by observing and critiquing current storefronts or other forms of marketing so I can learn what works for stores and what does not.

Visual Merchandising Analysis

This window display for Coach in Shanghai is fairly good. I think it’s modern and they make it easy to recognize what they are selling, which is handbags and shoes. I think that using the light beam in the middle to hold up the purses a really helps put the emphasis on those products. I think it’s also nice how they have an outfit styled with the purse so you can see how you can incorporate it into an outfit.

This is a display for Sporting Life camping. I feel like it is really busy and there is a lot going on in such a small space. It is not very balanced and there is no real focal point. I feel like the emphasis is really on camping accessories rather than camping clothes, but it still feels like it was all just thrown together.
